Disaster Resource Centre - District Secretariat - Jaffna

The Disaster Resource Centre was established in the year 2006 as per the letter received from the Secretary, Disaster Relief Services and on the recommendation of Mr. K.Ganesh, Government Agent, Jaffna.  The activities of this centre are as follows.

1. Grant of relief to people affected by disaster.
   
2. Implementation of projects to rectify the adverse effects caused by the disaster.
   
3. Monitor, co-orinate and evaluate the activities of all the organizations which are involved in helping the disaster
   

After the establishment of this centre relief for flood, drought and cyclone have been received.  During this year 3 million Rs. Drought relief and 15,000.00 for death due to cyclone has been received from Ministry of Disaster Relief Services.
A draft Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan has been prepared to encounter the disaster.  A disaster awareness programme for the Heads of Government and non Governmental Organizations was held at this Secretariat on 24.07.2007.  The important telephone numbers are as follows.
