Disaster Management Centre,
District Secretariat,
Kilinochchi.
After the Tsnami in December 2004 the Government has passed a law (No.13 of May 2005) to form a National Council for Disaster Management and Disaster Management Committees in each District.
By that Disaster Management centre for Kilinochchi has been started in June 2006. The following appointments have been made to the unit.
1. K.Vairamuthu – Disaster Management Coordinator.
2. K.Chandrasekara - Disaster Management Officer
Another two posts for Disaster Management Assistants to be filled.
Four A.G.A Divisions, 95 G.N Divisions and 324 Villages are in this District. 95 Village level committees were formed and two days residential training programme were conducted for all Presidents (Grama Niladaries) with the help of OXFAM G.B. They under took all the expenses occurred for that awareness programme.
By this Awareness Programme 72 mitigation projects were received from the village level committees and those were submitted at the Head Office of the Disaster Management Centre, Colombo -07 for the approval and allocation of fund.
Now we have planned to conduct Disaster Management Awareness Programme for the all members of village level committees and a 2 days training programme on first aid and Life saving for selected heath volunteers. The funds for the awareness programme has been released by the head office.
