|
01 District Rehabilitation and Reconstruction An allocation of Rs 189.55 Million was released in 2006 by the Ministry of Nation Building and Estate Infrastructure Development and the Ministry of Resettlement for the implementation of Development Works, for the Payment of Compensation, Essential Service Works and World Food Programme.
The Payment of Compensation to 98 Most Affected Persons, Issuance of Dry Ration to 8,762 Families, Maintenance of 1,954 Families in the Welfare Centres, Compensation for the Damages to Houses and Properties to 26 Beneficiaries and re-settlement 917 Families were completed during the Year 2006.
In addition 59 Roads, 20 Places of Worship, 12 School Buildings, 03 Play-grounds, 03 Multi Purpose Halls were rehabilitated.
The supply of Electricity to 20 Villages, supply of Drinking Water to 10 Villages and training on Sewing to 60 beneficiaries were completed. The Training and Issue of Driving Licence for 231 persons was also implemented with this allocation.
The 161 Health Volunteers, 16,418 Students, Internally Displaced 57,033 Mothers and Children and were benefitted under World Food Programme
02 Foreign Funded Projects A North East Community Restoration & Development - NECORD
Under the NECORD Project, most of the schools in Mannar District were provided with the required furniture and class rooms for the benefit of the children.
Likewise, Ambulances and building facilities for Wards were provided for the Health Institutions in the District.
B North East Irrigated Agricultural Project - NEIAP
The activities were commenced in the 25 Focal villages selected for the implementation of the Stage II of the Project.
Out of the 25 Focal Villages, work had commenced on 23 Village Tanks. 15 Multi Purpose Halls were completed. The work was in progress in respect of the balance 11 Halls.
68 Wells were selected to provide drinking water facilities and work was completed on 08 Wells and handed over to the village community.
A Concept Paper for drilling of Tube Wells in the villages - Kovvankulam and Arippu West was forwarded to the Project Monitoring Unit for its approval.
The rehabilitation of the Internal Agricultural Road work in Arippu West was in progress.Regarding the balance 24 villages, preparation of estimates were underway in respect of some and tenders had been called for the balance works.
Under the Livelihood Support Programme, 27 Women Rural Development Societies had been selected. Three WRDSS had been provided with 100% allocation while the balancewere paid with 65% as payment under Stage I.
The construction of the Office and Quarters for the Irrigation Engineer, Murunkan had been completed. The work of the Department of Animal Production and Health under the NEIAP too had been completed.
C Mannar District Rehabilitation & Reconstruction through Community Approach Project/JICA
The MANRECAP/JICA Project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency commenced its project activities in April 2004 and the total cost of the Project is Rs 210.235 Million. The duration of the Project is four years. The Project is implemented in ten Focal Villages - five in the Cleared and the balance five in the Un-cleared Areas with 1,000 households. The main concept of the Project is empowerment and community development. D North East Housing Rehabilitation Programme
24 Villages in Mannar, Nanaddan and Musali Divisions were identified for the Implementation of NEHRP II. 325 beneficiaries were selected and each was granted a sum of Rs 250,000/= on instalments for the rehabilitation of their damaged houses. 318 Beneficiaries had completed their houses and in occupation while the balance 07 had left the country to India in view of the security situation in the District.
A Training Programme on Masonry was conducted in Nanaddan DS Division and there were 30 Participants. |
